Retrofit of the Washington Plaza backup power plant

Context

The Washington Plaza is a business center located in Paris. Its electrical installation comprises several redundant high-voltage (HV) distribution substations, with automatic changeover managed by a centralized technical management system (CTM). The emergency power station comprises two 1500 kVA generators, in parallel to supply the low-voltage switchboard (LVS) in change over mode.

The backup power plant, installed in 1991, requires modernization. The purpose of the renovation project is to replace the original electromechanical control systems, as well as the old Renault electronic boards, using a more efficient automated system.

Application type

The project concerns a change over application, where two gensets (GE) are used to ensure continuity of power supply in case of main electrical grid failure. In this application, the transfer switch is not managed by CRE Technology controller.

Application details

The GENSYS COMPACT PRIME is used for paralleling and synchronizing of generator sets. In the event of an outage on the main grid, these two devices automatically start the generators via a command from the BMS. After paralleling, they supply the TGBT in emergency mode. The GENSYS COMPACT PRIME also provides automatic power management, starting or stopping the gensets according to load.

When the mains return, the CTM deactivates the command, and the mains resumes the load, while the GENSYS COMPACT PRIME executes the engine stop sequence.

An i4GEN 10" color touchscreen was installed to supervise the entire installation, facilitating management of the two generators.
