Train field teams to improve facility performance

Control systems now play a vital role in the operation of modern gensets and power facilities. But beyond the technology itself, a facility's performance also depends on the ability of field teams to effectively use the tools made available to them.

In environments where energy continuity is critical, knowing how to interpret an alarm, understanding how a controller behaves, or responding quickly to a fault can have a direct impact on facility availability and restart times.

With this in mind, ND Importaciones, a partner distributor of CRE Technology since 2020, organized a technical training session on March 2, 2026, at the offices of Nicaragua Machinery Company (NIMAC)in Managua on March 2, 2026.

As Caterpillar's representative in Nicaragua, NIMAC is one of the major users of ATS solutions and genset control systems. This training addressed a specific need: to enable technical teams to become more self-sufficient in the diagnosis, maintenance, troubleshooting, and day-to-day operation of the controllers.

The goal was also to reduce certain response times, avoid unnecessary costs associated with external support, and improve the efficiency of field operations.

The session brought together 10 technicians and 3 sales representatives. The program focused primarily on the controller AMF COMPACT, its use in ATS applications, and the i4Gen Suite 2.

To foster a practical understanding of the equipment, the training alternated between theory, hands-on demonstrations, and actual hands-on work with the systems. Participants also worked on exercises directly inspired by real-world operating conditions.

This pragmatic approach enables teams to better understand how controllers function in real-world situations and to develop operational reflexes useful for day-to-day tasks.

By the end of the session, participants were better able to identify the source of certain alarms, understand the typical behavior of the controller , and make several minor parameter adjustments. The teams also worked on programming weekly automatic starts and stops, as well as on the daily use of the software interface.

Feedback from participants highlighted, in particular, the ease of use of CRE Technology’s solutions, the user-friendliness of the i4Gen Suite 2 software, and the possibilities offered by its connectivity features.

Beyond the training itself, this initiative illustrates how ND Importaciones supports its customers over the long term.
