Smart Energy Management for Low- to Medium-Power Applications

For low- to medium-power installations incorporating a BESS and a single generator, the complementary nature of Victron Energy and CRE Technology is fully realized. Victron’s Cerbo GX acts as the system master and intelligently manages the energy sources.

The batteries power the load and are primarily recharged by solar power, reducing fuel consumption and environmental impact. If solar production or the battery level becomes insufficient, the generator starts automatically according to the configured settings.

To maximize fuel efficiency, the batteries are charged at high power. Once the target state of charge is reached, the generator shuts off. This automated management ensures a continuous power supply while optimizing the use of available resources.

Advanced solutions for medium- to high-power applications

For medium- to high-power installations incorporating one or more BESS units, one or more generators, and renewable energy sources—whether in off-grid (microgrid) or on-grid mode— CRE Technology controllers serve as the system master.

All sources (generators, BESS, solar PV, and the utility grid) are connected to an busbar without any power restrictions, offering maximum flexibility. The load can thus be powered by any combination of available sources, even during periods of high demand.
Synchronization of each source with the busbar , as well as of the entire system with the utility grid, is automatic and seamless. The use of photovoltaic systems remains flexible: they can be connected to the grid, the BESS, and/or generators in off-grid mode.

In off-grid mode, the Grid forming source Grid forming be the generators or the BESS. The generators start and stop automatically based on the reserve power . CRE controllers optimize the use of the BESS and PV to minimize generator operation, up to a complete shutdown when renewable sources and storage cover both consumption and reserve power. They manage the distribution of active and reactive power and protect the generators from power backfeed by limiting solar production if necessary.

In on-grid mode, CRE controllers detect any grid failure and seamlessly switch to other sources. When the grid is restored, they resynchronize the entire system without interruption and automatically shut down the generators if they were running. They also control import/export setpoints and dynamic pricing for energy purchased or sold.

Conclusion

By combining their expertise, CRE Technology and Victron Energy offer high-performance hybrid solutions for off-grid sites, backup applications, and grid-connected installations. This synergy significantly reduces fuel consumption and CO₂ emissions, while ensuring a continuous and reliable power supply. A concrete collaboration in support of energy efficiency and the transition to sustainability.
